We strive to keep our programs affordable, due to a tremendous amount of volunteers and donations. Parents are welcome to get involved, we can always use extra help -- no experience necessary! Monthly Board Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at the Grand Traverse Yacht Club. Our instructors are trained professionals and place great importance on safety and proper instruction on the water. Sailors are required to wear proper foot gear and a Coast Guard approved flotation vest at all times. US Sailing, the national governing body of the sport of sailing, certifies all of our instructors.

AM Half Day (9am - noon) PM Half Day (1-4pm) or Full Day (9-4pm)

Costs are $385 for the two week full day or $210 for the two week half day Sessions or $165 for the one week full day Session.

Advanced Sailing Sessions

TACS offers a two week, full day Session focused on preparing sailors to compete at a higher level. These Sessions will focus on further refining racing skills such as tactics, boat handling, sail trim & knowledge of the racing rules using singlehanded boats (lasers), 2 person boats (JY 15's & Club 420's) and crewed 3 person boats (Interlakes). We recomend that all sailors take the two week basic Learn To Sail course first.

Each session will meet three times a week for two weeks, the 6 classes will run from 6:00PM to 9:00PM on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday evenings at the TACS Site located on the North end of the Boardman Lake. Teaches the skills and responsibilities of sailing. Sessions are approximately 3 hours each for three sessions per week.

Traverse Area Community Sailing and Bay Breeze Boat Charters have formed a new partnership to offer big boat sailing experiences for TACS adult members on Grand Traverse Bay. Through the partnership, individuals 18 years or older who have participated in TACS Learn to Sail program have access to Bay Breezes' keelboats to skipper from its headquarters on West Grand Traverse Bay.

Cost is $320 per 2 week session.

TACS Summer Racing Program

Take it to the next level. Looking to tune your skills and move into the fall High School Sailing Season? This is the next stage for you.

TACS Race team members will train three afternoons a week. In addition sailing team members are invited to join a TACS crew to race on our Interlakes (3 person crews) and race with the GTYC adult racers on Thursday nights. TACS Coaches will provide coaching, assistance on the race course as well as a safety boat during the races.

Cost is $90 per two week session. Monday, Tuesday & Thursday Afternoons

Open sailing is available to any sailor who has completed a TACS sailing Session or who has purchased a season pass.You must have demonstrable qualifications or have completed the TACS program. Activities begin after 5:00 PM on weeknights or 9:00 am on weekends, beginning in June for nine weeks.

TACS Season Passes

Any qualified adult or youth sailor who has successfully completed a TACS sailing program or equivalent US Sailing-certified program is eligible. One ANNUAL FEE allows participation in Drop In Sailing or any other time an instructor and safety boat is on the water and the Hull Park facility is open, subject to availability. Use of boats limited by skill and certification level. Youth passes are for ages 8 to 17.

Adaptive Sailing Program

Adaptive sailing is a program that is inclusive to individuals with all abilities, including but not limited to those with physicals and/or cognitive delays, senior citizens, veterans, and those with critical health concerns.  Easy access is the key to providing services for all, and the Cornwell Sailing Center provides barrier free docks, lifts and equipment.  Community funding and collaboration has been necessary to provide the boats, instruction, and volunteers to run a safe and fun program.

Payment is required in full with registration. We will notify you immediately if we are unable to accommodate your first choice. Otherwise, you will be contacted prior to your session starting date with medical release, final instructions and information.

Registration forms may be submitted via mail by filling out our on-line form and printing out and mailing the completed form with payment (check or money order) to the address at the bottom of the page.

Cancellation requests must be made IN WRITING more than 30 days prior to the start of each session. A 15% handling fee will be charged. NO REFUNDS will be made for cancellations within 30 days of the start of each session.
